Sarah Lawrence College Student War Board Scrapbook, 1942-1946This digitization project has been funded in part by the Metropolitan New York Library Council (METRO). ContentsIntroductionThe Sarah Lawrence College Student War Board Scrapbook, 1942-1946 offers a representative collection of documents, newspaper clippings and photographs related to the Sarah Lawrence College war effort during World War II, particularly the war work of the students. The scrapbook was created by the Student War Board in the Spring of 1945 and was made available for students to peruse after the war ended. It also includes a brief section on the work of the Community House in 1945-46, the successor to the War Board. In recognition of the importance of student war-related activities, Constance Warren mentioned the scrapbook in her President's Report of April, 1945: "A scrapbook showing the War Activities from the inception of the War Board to the present time is being prepared. This will include clippings, pictures, posters, pamphlets, etc. which it is hoped will be of interest in years to come." The digitization of the scrapbook has allowed the interest to extend to a much wider audience for many more years, just as President Warren had hoped. The scrapbook covers a large portion of the war-related topics, but is incomplete and is missing numerous items. A complete picture of the College's war efforts can be found by perusing various campus publications from the time period including, but not limited to, The Campus (student newspaper), Sarah Lawrence Alumnae Magazine, and the President's Reports.
