Arnold KrupatGlobal Studies: Literature |
|||||
CoursesMy courses focus on the canonical or standard or central texts of nineteenth- and twentieth-century American literature with a substantial amount of attention paid to texts by blacks, women, and Native Americans that have for long been been considered marginal. In "Representing Indians," the focus is on the issue of representation, the ways in which Europeans and Euro-Americans have portrayed Native people, moving to the ways in which, at least since the end of the eighteenth century, Native people have portrayed--represented--themselves. Like my other courses, although in more substantial degree, this course is interdisciplinary in that materials of a historical, ethnographic, and linguistic nature contextualize our literary readings. |
