Use of Web Sites for Teaching

3. Electronic Discussion Group

To provide an electronic forum for the exchange of student ideas about the readings. This is far and away the most useful web innovation for teaching thus far. Instead of requiring students to produce thought pieces or journal entries that only the teacher of the class reads, all of the members of the seminar have access to the responses through the web page. The software we used for this is educational shareware, NetForum, that is extremely simple to implement.

Examples:

To set up NetForum, there is a web based form to fill out that will allow you to create a new discussion group for each class. Rebecca can set this up for you and incorporate a link to it from your home page.
