From an anonymous treatise intended to aid with mnemonic imaging of the Gospels. Produced in about 1470 in the Upper Rhineland. The fifteen illustrations provide a visual summary of the four Gospels. The accompanying text on the facing pages is a summary of the Gospels. The traditional symbols for the Evangelists are employed: eagle (John), bull (Luke), lion (Mark) and angel (Matthew).
