The Document window displays the current page with which you are working. This area is used much like WordPerfect or Word: you can type the text or paste it from another source and format it.
The Mini-Launcher at the bottom of the Document window contains buttons for opening and closing your most frequently used inspectors and palettes.

The Object palette contains buttons for creating various types of objects: Characters, Common, Forms, Frames, Head, and Invisibles. (For a detailed breakdown, go to Context help > Dreamweaver basics > Object Palette or page 20 in the Dreamweaver 3 Visual Quickstart Guide)
The Property inspector displays properties for
the selected object or text, and it allows you to modify those properties. (see
Context help > Dreamweaver Basics > Property Inspector or page 14 in the
Dreamweaver 3 Visual Quickstart Guide)
The Properties inspector changes appearance and function depending on the type
of object selected. The default (as it appears above) is for text.
These items can be hidden by pressing th F4 key, and then brought back again with F4. If they are closed and you want to re-open then, go to the Window menu and choose the window, palette, or inspector you'd like to see. If a check mark appears by its name, the item is already open.
