Computer Assignments

These image assignments are password protected, and accessible only by members of the class. If you are in the class and you forget the password, e-mail me. Other students, educators, and scholars who would like access to these assignments should also contact the instructor.

**VERY IMPORTANT PROCEDURAL NOTE for STUDENTS**

To protect their work from unpredictable computer events (such as program or system crashes) students should compose their assignment answers in a word processing program (saving their file often!) and then paste the text they compose into the Web-based submission form. This procedure will provide you with an alternate means of demonstrating that you have done the required work, and it will allow you to retain a copy of your assignment answers for your personal records (since for these assignments, you will get no written feedback -- only discussion feedback in class).

Essay Assignments

General directions for all essays: Write a short but coherently argued essay that addresses one of the following topics.  In form, your essay should be approximately 3-5 typed pages long (750-1250 words), with standard formatting (double spacing, 1 inch margins, 10 or 12 point font, page numbering) and a consistent citation procedure (e.g. in text (Goff 1991, p. 2) with bibliography or footnote form (M. Lee Goff, “A Feast of Clues,”…).  In content, it should employ examples and illustrations from the class readings and discussion whenever possible to make your points.  Your work will be evaluated on how well demonstrate that you have thoughtfully engaged with the class materials and developed an understanding of the larger themes and/or issues that they raise.
