Luis Buñuel was born in Spain in 1900. His first two films were made in collaboration with the painter Salvador Dali, and both caused uproar on release. Un Chien Andalou in 1928, and L'Age D'Or in 1930, both displayed dreamlike sensationalist images, that were designed to shock and startle the audience. They did just that, and L'Age D'Or was banned for forty-nine years.
Buñuel's roots have always been in surrealism, and savaging the bourgeois and religion. His later films were less outrageous, but were always thought provoking. The Exterminating Angel and The Phantom of Liberty being good examples. He moved to Mexico in 1946, and became a Mexican citizen, and made a lot of films there. He returned to France in his later years and made his last several films there. Even though he was over seventy years-old, he was still at his very best. Luis Buñuel died in Mexico in 1983, and left a trail of brilliant and unforgettable films in his wake.

Un perro andaluz de 1928 y La Edad de Oro de 1930 trabajan con imágenes de sueño que tienen por efecto sorprender y shockear a la audiencia. Hacen precisamente eso y fueron prohibidas por 49 años.
Buñuel era un surrealista y satirizaba a la burguesía y a la religión. Sus últimas películas fueron menos provocativas pero siempre provocaron el pensamiento. El Angel Exterminador y El Fantasma de la Libertad son dos buenos ejemplos. Fue a Mejico en 1946 y se convirtió en un ciudadano mejicano e hizo muchas películas buenas. Volvió a Francia cuando era viejo y allí hizo muchas películas. A pesar de que tenía más de 70 años, todavía estaba muy bien. Murió en Mejico en 1983, y dejó una lista de películas brillantes e inolvidables a su muerte.
