Luis Buñuel's Los Olvidados is the story of complete despair. With a prepubescent Pedro at its center, Los Olvidados tells the story of a gang of impoverished street urchins, who torment their Mexican community with random acts of violence and intimidation. After a day of accosting a crippled old man and causing trouble Pedro goes home to a crowded house in the barrio where he desires a meal from his mother and more importantly a hug, he gets neither. Pedro's mother has long given up on her son. She works hard to support her three younger children, alone. For five years she has been a widow. Pedro's only family is his gang, led by Jaibo an older and more ruthless delinquent. Pedro's situation never improves and while the viewer wishes for a strand of hope Buñuel refuses to compromise. This is a story of the streets and the streets do not lie. In the end both Pedro and Jaibo are dead and nothing is resolved, the trauma continues.
Los Olvidados de Luis Buñuel es una historia desesperada. Con un chico, Pedro, en el centro de la historia, Los Olvidados cuenta la historia de una banda de chicos pobres urbanos, que atormentan a su comunidad mejicana con actos de violencia e intimidación. Después de un día de molestar a un hombre viejo sin piernas y de causar problemas, Pedro va a la casa de su madre en el barrio. El quiere comida y un abrazo pero no recibe nada. La única familia de Pedro es su banda, conducida por Jaibo y otros delincuentes mas grandes y malos. La situación de Pedro nunca mejora y mientras el espectador desea una esperanza, Buñuel no da esperanza ninguna. Esta es una historia de las calles y las calles no mienten. Al final, Pedro y Jaibo mueren y nada se resuelve, el trauma continúa.
