Creating and Editing Content with Portlets

To add content to a page, you need to be able to edit that page. To do so, click on “Edit Page” in the upper right-hand corner of the page and below the navigation tabs and breadcrumb navigation bar. This will take you to the Properties tab of the Customize Page window.

How to locate your courses’ sections in the LMS

Properties tab

In the Properties tab, you can edit the name of the page, and also whether this page is the default page for the course or whether it is the default page for only this section of the course. If the page you are editing is not the default page, a checkbox entitled “Make this page default” will appear to allow you to set it as the default.

Content tab

From the Content tab, you can edit what appears on the current page. You can add the content you want to be displayed to portlets, which you can add and delete from this page. The portlets you define here will be displayed on the main page.

Edit Page - Content

To edit a portlet, click on the pencil icon to the far right of the portlet you wish to edit. Further information on how to edit the content of portlets can be found on the portlets page.

Layout tab

On the Layout tab, you can choose how many columns appear on the page, the side of the page each portlet will appear on, and the order in which the portlets will appear on the page.

Edit Page - Layout

To move a portlet from one column to another, first select the portlet you would like to move (it can be found in the list below the column it is currently located in), and then click the blue-outlined icon of the column you want to move it to. It will jump to that column’s list of portlets. To move a portlet up and down within its assigned column, select it and then click on the up or down arrow.

Permissions tab

In the Permissions tab, you can alter which pages in your course site that individual students in your classes are permitted to access. For example, you may wish to give a teaching assistant the ability to view homework submitted by students. You could also prevent students who are auditing the class from accessing online assignments, or accomplish similar tasks that involve giving some students more or fewer permissions than others.
