Handouts Portlet
The Handouts portlet allows you to store files online for students to download. You can upload and store files of any type - Word documents, PDFs, images, even sound or short video files.
The Handouts portlet is found on the Readings and Handouts page, and also functions exactly like the Downloadable Syllabus portlet on the Syllabus page.
Adding Handouts:
To add a handout, click on “Add a Handout”.

You will then be sent to the “Manage Handout View” page. From there, enter a title for your handout, then click “Browse…” to find the file you would like to upload.

Then pick a set to save the file in. A set can be thought of as a folder or category which contains individual handouts. If you would like to create a new set for the file, click “Add a Set”. If you choose not to use sets, simply leave this menu selection as “Ungrouped.”

Optionally, enter a description for the file in the text field. You can style the text by using the toolbar buttons above the text field.

You may also regulate the dates and times the handout is available. To finish and save the handout, press “Save”. If you would like to save this handout and upload another one, click “Save and Add Another”. This option works well if you have several handouts you want to upload at once. If you would like to abandon this handout, press “Cancel”.

Managing Handouts:
To get to the managing handouts screen, click “Go to Main Screen” or the title “Handouts”.
To select a file, check the checkbox next to the file you wish to select.
If you’d like to organize your files in separate categories (such as Images, Readings, Videos or Week 1, Week 2, Week 3), click “Add a Set” to create a new set. Then select all the files you wish to move into the new folder by checking their checkboxes and then click the drop down menu that says “Move”. Once selected, click the drop down menu that says “Ungrouped” in the example picture, and select the desired set for the files to be placed in. Then press “Submit” to finish.
To delete a file, select it, and then click the trash icon at the far right of the page next to the appropriate handout or select “Delete” in the first drop down menu with the checkbox next to the file checked and click “Submit”.
To copy a file, simply select the file, then click the first drop down menu and select “Copy”. After selecting the “Copy” option, select a set to save the copied file to, and click “Submit”.
To save a file to File Cabinet, select the file. Then click the first drop down menu, and select “Save to File Cabinet” and press “Submit”.
To download a file, simply click on the name of the file (e.g. in the example picture, click the brown link called “Affirmation Statement” to download the file).

The Manage menu allows you to add a handout, add a set, edit a set, and change the order of your sets.

To change the order in which the files are presented, change the numbers in the mini text fields. The sets are numbered according to the order in which they will appear, so number 1 will be the first on the page, number 2 will be the second, and so on.
To save the changes made, press “Save”. To cancel the changes made, press “Cancel”.
