How to install the Lexmark E240n Laser Printer to an OS X Apple Computer

Note: This guide applies ONLY to the following:

  • Faculty members using an Apple desktop or laptop computer that is running Mac OS X 10.4. (You can find out what operating system you are running by clicking on the Apple symbol and selecting About this Mac.)
  • Faculty members who have just recently received a new Lexmark E240n Laser Printer
  • Faculty members who HAVE NOT been visited by Academic Computing to install the printer.

To add a network printer to your system:

  1. Click Apple symbol and select System Preferences.
  2. Click Print and Fax.
  3. Click the plus symbol to add the printer.
  4. Hold down Option on your keyboard, then click “More.”
  5. Click on the first drop down menu and select “Advanced.”
  6. Click on the second drop down menu and select “Windows Printer via SAMBA.”
  7. Modify your settings to look like the screenshots’, replacing in the “URI” field, “username” with the username you use to login on campus, replacing “password” with your login password, and replacing “printername” with the name of the printer you are trying to add, which will be given you by Academic Computing. Please copy and paste the information into your “URI” field to minimize typing errors, then make the modifications. smb://username:password@academic/acad-print/printername
    Next you need to modify the “Printer Model” drop down menu on the bottom.
  8. Select “Lexmark” in the “Printer Model” drop down, then select “Lexmark E240n” from the scrolling list that shows up under the heading “Name” (if this is not an option, please contact Academic Computing for more information). Click “Add,” and you’re done!
