Brief Job Description:

Web Project Assistants III are responsible for assisting the Web Project Manager in the design, development and maintenance of faculty, department, and Academic Computing web projects. Web Project Assistants also provide support for faculty, staff and students who use web development, content contribution, and learning management tools in the form of in-person or phone technical support and assistance during workshops. Typical duties will include seeing entire web site creation (design and code) and web application development projects through from start to finish; brainstorming creative ways to use existing web systems to their fullest; and writing web-related documentation.

Responsibilities:

  • Track progress of all web-based projects using the Web Project Assignment form.
  • Report to Web Project Manager at the start and end of each shift, even if working on an ongoing project.
  • Serve as teaching assistant for at least one web-related workshop per semester.
  • Serve as tier two support for faculty and student content contribution system issues (training will be provided on specific systems).
  • Mentor/train Web Project Assistants I and II when needed.
  • When assigned tasks are completed for a given shift, initiative should be taken to revisit old projects in light of new skills and standards and propose improvements to existing processes via web-based technologies.

Skills Required:

  • Self-motivated, able to work responsibly, independently and in an organized manner, and interest in acquiring new skills.
  • Good attitude, patience and respect when working with SLC community members and coworkers.
  • Ability to accept constructive criticism and feedback in a professional manner and utilize them to improve projects.
  • Very comfortable coding (X)HTML and CSS by hand.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Dreamweaver and Photoshop.
  • Strong grasp of the concepts of W3C standards, web accessibility, cross-browser compatibility and usability.
  • Preferred - Familiarity with Adobe Contribute, Adobe Photoshop Elements, Omnipage Pro software.
  • Preferred - Knowledge of other (web or otherwise) programming languages.

Qualifications:

  • Experience creating several websites from start to finish – design, HTML, hosting, implementation.
  • Previous experience in technical support, teaching, tutoring, or client relations.
  • Experience coding at least simple PHP and JavaScript.
