Windows XP Firewall

Using the Windows XP firewall can help keep hackers, viruses, and worms from gaining access to your computer. The firewall works by simply denying access to your computer from requests coming from outside computers. It will not protect you from Internet traffic that you initiate from your computer.

To activate the Windows XP firewall, follow the instructions below:

  1. Click Start, click Run, type firewall.cpl, and then click OK.
  2. On the General tab, click On (recommended), and then click OK.
  3. If you have multiple network connections on your computer (ethernet, wireless, etc.) make sure they are all protected by the Windows firewall by following these additional steps:

  4. Click the Advanced tab.
  5. Place a check mark next to each network interface.
  6. Click OK.

Once you complete these steps, your computer will be protected by the WinXP firewall.
